All Brokers (including Provisionals) are required to take two 4-hour Continuing Education (CE) courses each licensing year to keep their license Active the following license year.

Exception: Have you renewed your license the 1st time? If not, you do not have to take CE until the license year after your 1st renewal.

  •  The 4-hour Mandatory Update is required of all Brokers (including BIC’s) and, if not a BIC, Brokers must also take a 4-hour Elective.
  • The Mandatory Update must be taken in a live classroom setting.

Only Broker’s-In-Charge (BIC’s) or Brokers who are “BIC eligible” can receive credit for taking the Broker-In-Charge Annual Review (BICAR). Not sure if you’re “BIC eligible”? You can go to the NC Real Estate Commission’s Website at http://www.ncrec.state.nc.usand find this on your personal page.

  • The Broker-In-Charge Annual Review (BICAR) must be taken in a live classroom setting.
  • The BICAR is not the same as the 12 hour Broker-In-Charge course which is taught only by the NC Real Estate Commission.

If you choose to take 2 or more Electives, 1 Elective can be carried over to the next license year.
